Please share: PhD in Human–AI Teaming at NTNU, Trondheim (deadline 16 November)
by Ole Andreas Alsos 01 Nov '26

01 Nov '26
Dear NordiCHI colleagues, Do you know a promising master’s student or graduate in HCI or interaction design who is interested in how people can work effectively with and AI in safety-critical settings? I would appreciate your help in sharing our PhD position in Human–AI Teaming for Maritime Operations at NTNU’s Department of Design in Trondheim. The position offers an opportunity to connect HCI and interaction design research with practical challenges in maritime operations. The candidate will join Shore Control Lab<https://www.ntnu.edu/shorecontrol>, working within a research environment focused on human-centred design and human factors, with connections to the Norwegian Maritime AI Centre<https://www.ntnu.edu/mai> and real-world maritime use cases. We are particularly keen to reach candidates with backgrounds in HCI, interaction design, industrial design, human factors, cognitive psychology, or related fields. Strong prototyping skills and an interest in designing and evaluating AI-supported decision-making would be especially relevant. Maritime experience is welcome, but it is preferred rather than required. Please consider forwarding the announcement directly to suitable students or graduates. A personal recommendation from a supervisor or colleague can make a real difference in encouraging someone to apply. Application deadline: 16 November 2026 Full announcement and application details<https://www.jobbnorge.no/en/available-jobs/job/310358/phd-candidate-in-huma…> Prospective candidates are welcome to contact me at oleanda(a)ntnu.no<mailto:oleanda@ntnu.no>. Many thanks for helping us reach suitable candidates! Best regards, Ole -- Ole Andreas Alsos Professor in Interaction Design Head of Shore Control Lab Department of Design Faculty of Architecture and Design Norwegian University of Science and Technology ole.alsos(a)ntnu.no +47 915 44 825
