================================ Second Call for proposals to host NordiCHI 2028 ================================ Deadline: May 7, 2026 NordiCHI is an independent organization with the purpose of ensuring the independence and continuity of the biannual NordiCHI conference, please see https://nordichi.eu/ for more information. NordiCHI 2000 was held in Stockholm, Sweden, NordiCHI 2002 was in Aarhus, Denmark, NordiCHI 2004 was in Tampere, Finland, NordiCHI 2006 was in Oslo, Norway, NordiCHI 2008 in Lund, Sweden, NordiCHI 2010 in Reykjavik, Iceland, NordiCHI 2012 in Copenhagen, Denmark. NordiCHI 2014 in Helsinki, Finland, NordiCHI 2016 in Gothenburg, Sweden, NordiCHI 2018 in Oslo, Norway, NordiCHI 2020 in Tallinn, Estonia, NordiCHI 2022 in Aarhus, Denmark, NordiCHI 2024 in Uppsala & Umeå, Sweden, and 2026 will be held in Vaasa, Finland. The conference is held in cooperation with ACM SIGCHI, to ensure publication of the NordiCHI proceedings through the ACM digital library. NordiCHI 2028 dates should be similar to the other NordiCHI conferences (late October). Make sure to avoid collision with other major competitive events. To be able to objectively decide upon a venue for NordiCHI 2028, we would like you to prepare a proposal describing the following: 1. Hosting organization: Note that the hosting organization should take full economic responsibility for the conference. The hosting organization's economic commitment must be specified in a signed letter of intent. 2. Venue: Describe the conference facilities as well as hotels and potential social program 3. Budget (plan): Especially when it comes to expected number of participants and registration fees. There is an expectation to pay approximately 5000 Euros to the NordiCHI organization from the conference surplus. This should be budgeted for. The NordiCHI steering committee expects the hosting organization to ensure low registration fees with discounts for students etc. Workshop fees should merely cover actual expenses per participant. The conference fee should include all social events such as the conference dinner. 4. Committee (plan): The general co-chairs and the programme chairs should be specified. 5. Profile of NordiCHI 2028: Describe the focus of the event and the reasoning behind. What will make NordiCHI 2028 something special? Profiling the conference can involve the conference theme. 6. Slogan or Theme. 7. Sustaining the NordiCHI spirit: Describe how the conference will be inclusive both with respect to subfields and various professions through announcing, introducing new participation categories etc. 8. Local HCI groups (academia, industry and society): How will the conference include the local HCI group(s) in the planning, preparation and execution of the conference? How will NordiCHI 2028 be an opportunity for participants to get to know the HCI communities of the country, and how will the conference be used to make the general public in the area aware of HCI issues? 9. Flexibility in terms of onsite, online, and hybrid participation. Other things of particular interest: Such as a decision to provide a specific submission category or providing any interesting new activities, social program etc. The next NordiCHI conference will be selected based on the attractiveness of the venue, the ability to make good use of existing HCI communities both within academy and industry, previous experiences in organizing similar events and the international recognition of persons in charge of the event. Proposals to host NordiCHI 2028 should be sent to the NordiCHI steering-committee at nordichihosting(a)gmail.com<mailto:nordichihosting@gmail.com> no later than May 7th, 2026. Decision will be made by the NordiCHI steering committee. Notification will be made in June 2026. First announcement of the event should take place at NordiCHI 2026 in Vaasa. International Conference on Accessibility – AccessCoVE2026 Digital conference taking place June 29-30, 2026 Call for Papers: Share Your Research and Innovation The AccessCoVE conference aims to be the premier international forum for showcasing cutting-edge research, innovation, and best practices in designing, evaluating, and promoting accessibility for people with disabilities and the elderly. Accessibility is defined as ‘‘the extent to which products, systems, services, environments and facilities are able to be used by a population with the widest range of characteristics and capabilities (e.g. physical, cognitive, ﬁnancial, social and cultural, etc.), to achieve a speciﬁed goal in a speciﬁed context (Persson, Ahman, Yngling and Gulliksen, 2015). AccessCoVE is meant to promote accessibility in its widest understanding and welcomes all to participate to have a scholarly conversation, network and discuss emerging topics in the field of accessibility and other related domains. We invite you to submit high-quality, original papers, experience reports/teaching cases and presentations on topics that advance the field of accessibility, with a focus on improving the lives of individuals with disabilities and elderly. Literature Reviews: Comprehensive reviews of existing research on specific accessibility topics, providing a critical analysis of the state-of-the-art. Short Papers: Brief papers presenting preliminary results, work-in-progress, or novel ideas in accessibility research. Innovation cases: Experience Reports/Teaching Cases: Papers sharing practical experiences, autobiography, lessons learned, or case studies in accessibility education, training, or practice. Ignite sessions: Short, engaging powerpoint presentations, one pager, showcasing innovative ideas, prototypes, or projects in accessibility. Peer Review and Publication All papers will undergo a rigorous peer-review process by an International Program Committee composed of experts in accessibility research and practice. Dear all, Please see the attached invite to the 2026 Nordes summer school. Out of studios // on to sites: Temporalities of living (design research) labs in the wild To be held In Copenhagen, August 18th - 21st The Nordes summer school in 2026 invites design researchers to embed their work in a specific site and imagine how that site might change their work and the work might change the site’s future. Site matters: Its particulars inform our research interests and aims, and our being there impacts particulars seen and unseen. This includes potential participants invited and not invited to engage, places remade to scaffold encounters, and outcomes framed to scope concerns among other things. In this way, perhaps starting with a site is not about what it might provide for design research, and instead about what doing design research does, regardless of what it intends to do. We expect participants to gain a new perspective on their own research as inflected by the site, as well as a combination of public, expert, and collegial feedback on projects that can help propel the work forward. Together, we hope to build a network of practitioners that can push the boundaries of design research and help to construct the practice in the future. Deadline for application closes April 20th. But how to go about pursuing it? Design participation presents doable and demonstrated ways by which design can become a major contributor to social and environmental change. This entails a shift from seeking to define solutions to opening spaces in which others—activists, entrepreneurs, civil servants, neighborhood communities, politicians—can effectively elaborate on and find (re)solutions to the issues they are facing. Indeed, the last decades have seen an ever-widening public participation in transformative projects by industry and public administrations alike, across the globe. It is now time to pursue design participation for real: in earnest, skillfully and for real problems. This is central message of the book: participation matters – but only if we duly attend the matters of participation in pursuing it. In the book launch we examine seven ways to expand our understanding of participation in design: From design solutions to design participation; From participatory design to design participation; From professional designers to those who engage people; From participatory ideals to design participation work; From concept design workshops to active use and design-in-use; From invited participation to invested participation, and; From designable change to catalyzing actions into motion to achieve sociotechnical change. Project description You will conduct research in human-computer interaction, with a focus on design and creative programming (combing programming and creating interactive digital artefacts). Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly shaping how we approach interaction design and creative programming. So far, this AI integration has mainly focused on text- and screen-based applications, but as AI moves beyond the screen, new opportunities and challenges arise in designing for embodied and multimodal interaction in design and creative programming. Interactive artefacts, such as embodied and social robots (agents) open up possibilities for richer, more diverse forms of engagement. This shift raises critical questions about how we design and program when AI expands into new modalities of interaction. This PhD project aims to explore how multi-modal AI-based design and creative programming practices can extend into the domains of social robotics and embodied interaction. In particular, the project will investigate how social robots and embodied artefacts can act as co-creators alongside humans, supporting new approaches to interaction design and creative programming. The research will also consider contexts where interactions involve not only individual users and single AI tools, but also networks of humans and multiple AI-enabled tools and agents working together. The project will involve both designing and building working prototypes, as well as conducting design-oriented empirical studies in varied contexts of use. The goal is to advance both theoretical and practical understandings of how creative programming and interaction design can expand into embodied forms of interaction, in particular, through the use of robots and physical artefacts. You meet general entry requirements if you have completed a second-cycle degree, or completed courses equivalent to at least 240 higher education credits, of which 60 credits must be in the second cycle, or have otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge in Sweden or elsewhere. Specific entry requirements are described in the general syllabus for doctoral studies in the field of Computer and Systems Sciences and state that the applicant must have completed courses at second- cycle level in Computer and Systems Sciences with a minimum of 60 higher education credits, or equivalent, including a thesis with a minimum of 15 higher education credits. In addition, the applicant is required to have English language skills equivalent of Common European Framework of Reference for Languages Level B2. Selection The selection among the eligible candidates will be based on their capacity to benefit from the training. The following criteria will be used to assess this capacity: * Independence in the analysis and organization of the earlier work * Problem formulation and rigor in previous work and in the research plan * Previously shown ability to keep the specified time limits * Methodological and scientific maturity * Communication and cooperation skills * Subject specific knowledge relevant to education. The period of employment may not be longer than what corresponds to full-time doctoral education for four years. As a doctoral student, you should primarily devote yourself to your own doctoral education, but the employment may include work with education, research and administration to a limited extent (maximum 20 %).
