Dear AUNAB community, Upcoming events AUSBI is hosting their next Afternoon Meeting on Thursday December 11, which will focus on Cryo-EM techniques and know-how available for AU researchers. Open interdisciplinary funding calls We would like to draw your attention to two open funding calls with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary research: Villum Synergy Programme Who: The project must involve two PIs, one of which should be from a domain field such as natural science, technical science, social science, or humanities. The other PI should be from the field of computer science, statistics or applied mathematics. Both PIs should be tenured scientific staff at a Danish university. Deadline for application: February 19, 2026 Amount: 4.5 million DKK for 3 years or up to 14 million DKK for 5 years. Bimolecular Design Meeting and Students for iGEM competition

Dear AUNAB community, Invitation to Afternoon Meeting on Biomolecular Design On behalf of the organizing committee, I hereby send you the invitation to join us on Tuesday 21st October from 13:00-17:30 at AIAS, where the two research networks AUSBI<http://www.ausbi.au.dk/> and AUNAB<https://projects.au.dk/aunab/about-aunab> are co-hosting an afternoon event focusing on Biomolecular Design techniques and resources available to researchers at Aarhus University. Please find the meeting invitation and a program attached. All interested across departments at Aarhus University, with an interest in biomolecular design, are very welcome to attend. We strongly encourage both group leaders, junior researchers, and students to join. Participants are asked to bring a poster about their research for the networking and poster session, where pizza and drinks will also be available. Student team for iGEM competition AUNAB is assembling a student team to participate in the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM<https://igem.org/>) Competition 2026. Below is an overview of the timeline - from launching the student team in January to participating in the Grand Jamboree in Paris in October. [The iGEM Cycle: How to Navigate the iGEM Competition — iGEM Blog] We already have a core group of interested students and are now seeking additional 3rd-year bachelor’s students and 1st-year master’s students to join the team. Students from all educational backgrounds are encouraged to apply. While iGEM is a synthetic biology competition, building a successful project requires a diverse team with diverse skills including fields such as science, engineering, health, ethics, and business. The workshop will explore the history of the "artificial biology" topic by presentations by experts in history of science, art and literature, who will give examples of how our understanding of life and how to shape or create it has developed over time. Based on these examples, we will work in groups to discuss what these examples tell us about the definition of what life is, how to shape it, and how they can inform contemporary research. Dear AUNAB members, On behalf of Pint of Science, I am pleased to invite you to participate in Pint of Science Aarhus 2025—a global science communication festival that brings cutting-edge research into local pubs, bars, and cafés. The organizing committee is currently looking for enthusiastic early-career researchers who are eager to share their work with the public in an engaging and accessible way. Please find the full invitation and details below. Dear AUNAB Members! We're gearing up for Pint of Science Aarhus 2025 (https://pintofscience.com/about/) the global science festival in May that brings cutting-edge research into local pubs, bars, & cafés, and we're looking for a few more enthusiastic early-career researchers who are ready to make their science accessible, engaging, and fun! In this event, you can explain your science in the comfort of a pub. The talks should be aimed at the general public and are meant to communicate exciting science in a fun and straightforward way. This year’s event will take place from May 19th - 21st, between 19:00 and 21:30. Researchers will have 20 min to present their work with 10 min for questions, at one of two pubs in Aarhus C on one of the dates above. No experience in public speaking? No problem. Just bring your curiosity, a good sense of humour, and your love for science. We'll help with the rest! 🌍 It’s part of a global festival happening in 25+ countries. 📣 All research fields welcome – from black holes to bacteria. 🍻 The only rule: leave the lab coat at home. Update on AUNAB and sign-up for the kick-off meeting

Dear all, Thank you for your previous support for the Aarhus University Network on Artificial Biology (AUNAB). We have worked hard during the last months to get the network started by developing the website and arranging the AUNAB kick-off meeting and the first Interdisciplinary workshop. The kick-off meeting has been arranged for April 4 with a program that tries to cover the interdisciplinary perspectives on the topic (https://projects.au.dk/aunab/events/symposia) The plan is to give an overview at this initial meeting and to have discussions about the topic and find possible synergies and common interests.
