Last chance to sign up for the Interdisciplinary workshop
by Ebbe Sloth Andersen 04 Jun '25

04 Jun '25

Dear AUNAB members, We have extended the deadline to sign up for the Interdisciplinary workshop until Friday 6/6 at noon. Please consider joining us for exciting insights and discussions on artificial biology in science, literature, and art history. Sign up link: https://events.au.dk/aunabinterdisciplinaryworkshop Interdisciplinary workshop on artificial biology in science, literature and art history [A collage of different objects AI-generated content may be incorrect.]Artificial biology is a research area that aims at constructing life from scratch (from its basic building blocks) and thus addresses fundamental questions about what life is and how it originated - a topic that has captivated our imagination for centuries. The workshop will explore the history of the "artificial biology" topic by presentations by experts in history of science, art and literature, who will give examples of how our understanding of life and how to shape or create it has developed over time. Based on these examples, we will work in groups to discuss what these examples tell us about the definition of what life is, how to shape it, and how they can inform contemporary research. by Fie Noer Christensen 29 Apr '25

29 Apr '25

Dear AUNAB members, On behalf of Pint of Science, I am pleased to invite you to participate in Pint of Science Aarhus 2025—a global science communication festival that brings cutting-edge research into local pubs, bars, and cafés. The organizing committee is currently looking for enthusiastic early-career researchers who are eager to share their work with the public in an engaging and accessible way. Please find the full invitation and details below. Dear AUNAB Members! We're gearing up for Pint of Science Aarhus 2025 (https://pintofscience.com/about/) the global science festival in May that brings cutting-edge research into local pubs, bars, & cafés, and we're looking for a few more enthusiastic early-career researchers who are ready to make their science accessible, engaging, and fun! In this event, you can explain your science in the comfort of a pub. The talks should be aimed at the general public and are meant to communicate exciting science in a fun and straightforward way. This year’s event will take place from May 19th - 21st, between 19:00 and 21:30. Researchers will have 20 min to present their work with 10 min for questions, at one of two pubs in Aarhus C on one of the dates above. No experience in public speaking? No problem. Just bring your curiosity, a good sense of humour, and your love for science. We'll help with the rest! 🌍 It’s part of a global festival happening in 25+ countries. 📣 All research fields welcome – from black holes to bacteria. 🍻 The only rule: leave the lab coat at home. Ready to make science buzz beyond the lab? 👉 Apply to share your science: email mcorr(a)mbg.au.dk<mailto:mcorr@mbg.au.dk> or francisca.gpinherio(a)mbg.au.dk<mailto:francisca.gpinherio@mbg.au.dk> Please save the dates as we also hope to see you as spectators supporting our talented colleagues. Our local venues for 2025 are Fairbar and Åben, both with many non-alcoholic options on the menu. Update on AUNAB and sign-up for the kick-off meeting
by Ebbe Sloth Andersen 07 Mar '25

07 Mar '25

Dear all, Thank you for your previous support for the Aarhus University Network on Artificial Biology (AUNAB). We have worked hard during the last months to get the network started by developing the website and arranging the AUNAB kick-off meeting and the first Interdisciplinary workshop. The kick-off meeting has been arranged for April 4 with a program that tries to cover the interdisciplinary perspectives on the topic (https://projects.au.dk/aunab/events/symposia) The plan is to give an overview at this initial meeting and to have discussions about the topic and find possible synergies and common interests. Please sign up for the kick-off meeting (and suggest colleagues and students to do so) at this link: https://events.au.dk/aunabkick-off/conference The website presents the network, research, publications, news, and events (https://projects.au.dk/aunab) We will be happy to get your input on the presentation and ideas for making it better. Currently the news focus is biased towards the iNANO groups. We strongly encourage you to send research, news or topics that are relevant to artificial biology and the network to Fie (fienoer(a)inano.au.dk<mailto:fienoer@inano.au.dk>) so that we can add them to the news. We hope you are still interested in contributing to AUNAB and will also suggest others to join (one can sign up on the webpage). Signing out is also easy – just send an email to Fie. As a member of AUNAB you will receive emails (like this one) about the activities of the network. Also feel free to use the AUNAB mailing list for topics/announcements of common interest (aunab(a)maillist.au.dk<mailto:aunab@maillist.au.dk>). Later it will also be possible to sign up/off for a newsletter to get a bimonthly digest of news and events from the website. In the coming weeks we will announce the network through newsletters at AU and social media. Please help spreading the word about our network and suggest your colleagues and most importantly students with a possible interest to join the network and the kick-off meeting.
