Soon after its foundation, the GYA was celebrated by the journal Science (6 April 2010) as "an academy honoring outstanding early-career scientists from around the world". At the 10th Anniversary gathering of the GYA, Howard Alper, former Co-Chair of the IAP, quoted a high-level official from a non-European government in his plenary lecture: "Congratulations to the GYA on its tenth anniversary. This has been an important catalyst for the global exposure of so many brilliant young thinkers and scientists." The Global Young Academy is: · Global: present in six continents with a global impact on science and society. · Young: channelling the energy and inspiration of a new generation of science leaders. · An Academy of 200 members, carefully selected for their research excellence, the impact of their work, and the significant contributions they make to society. The GYA connects outstanding, young scholars worldwide to foster constructive dialogue and encourage strong scholarly networks towards assuring a sustainable future for the global community. Membership is limited to a period of five years, during which tremendous opportunities are provided to accelerate career development, reward, and recognition. Global diversity is at the core of the GYA, and we are on a mission to identify and connect the best young scholars worldwide. We have noticed that, very unfortunately, no GYA member has thus far been elected from Denmark. We would very much like to see this changed in the coming years. With this letter, we are calling on you to help us identify the best young scientists from your country, from any discipline comprising the natural sciences, social sciences and humanities, and to encourage them to apply for membership of the Global Young Academy. Currently, the GYA call for new members is open until 15 September 2021, see the attached flyer with more details including our mission statement. Young scientists can apply to become a GYA member up to 10 years after being awarded a PhD. Please access the following website that details the application process: https://globalyoungacademy.net/call-for-new-members We would be most grateful if you could kindly inform excellent candidates of this web link so that they can apply for GYA membership. Being selected as a member of the prestigious and highly influential GYA provides significant new opportunities for young scholars. Their voice will be heard on global science and policy platforms, they will grow their own individual potential for greater impact and they will become science leaders. We look forward to connecting to, and learning from, very strong candidates from Denmark.
