Title: Final state interaction effects in above-threshold ionization of atoms by strong laser fields Speaker: Nikolay Shvetsov-Shilovski, University of Jena Time: Monday, March 7, 15.15 to 16.00 Place: 1525-323 Abstract: The interaction of the photoelectron with the atomic residual leads to a large number of different effects in the ionization of atoms strong laser fields. We present theoretical analysis of some of these effects. Particular emphasis is placed on the elliptical polarization. We present a simple semiclassical model of above-threshold ionization in an elliptically polarized laser field and compare its predictions with experimental data. It is shown that the strong asymmetry for the low-energy electrons is induced by a small Coulomb force acting on the tunneling electron just after the exit of the tunnel. Angular distributions in the high energy part of the spectrum are also presented and discussed in the context of experimental data. The application of the streaking principle for the reconstruction of a few-cycle laser pulse with arbitrary polarization is analysed. Using a simple model, the ion and electron momentum distributions of nonsequential double ionization by elliptically polarized field are evaluated and interpreted in terms of electron trajectories. Significant violations of the symmetry patterns, compared with the case of linear polarization, are predicted. In addition, we shall discuss the relative yield and momentum distribution of multiply charged ions generated by sequential ionization in a short linearly polarized laser pulse. The yield of neutral excited atoms and low-energy photoelectrons generated by the electron dynamics in the combined Coulomb and laser field is investigated.
