[vip-all] Seeds, help please

Dear Colleagues, Sydney Leach in Paris has been performing experiments on seed irradiation on the Space Station. The arabidopsis and tobacco seeds that have returned from space have been solar and cosmic irradiated. Since they were dry, or at any rate dry enough to avoid germination in space, there must have been created quite a few free radicals during their exposition. Being imbibed with water after return to Earth should liberate free radical reactions that can affect germination. We can look at changes in DNA at that point but would like to know something about the number and possibly the nature of the free radicals in the seeds returned to Earth but before being imbibed with water. This could be done by electron paramagnetic resonance measurements. Is there anyone in IFA (or perhaps in Chemistry) that might be interested enough in this and able to do some epr measurements on the irradiated seeds, please? If so get in touch with me and with Sydney ( <mailto:sydney.leach@obspm.fr> sydney.leach@obspm.fr). Mvh David (Field)
