[vip-all] AMO seminar today

Title: Photofragmentation experiments on cooled molecular ions at the XUV free electron laser in Hamburg Speaker: Henrik B. Pedersen, IFA Time: Thursday,November 4, 15.15 to 16.00 Place: Fysisk Auditorium Abstract: The Free electron LASer in Hamburg (FLASH) delivers the worlds most intense laser pulses in XUV energy regime. The seminar will highlight our efforts to explore the possibilities opened by this light source to probe excited states of molecular systems by experimental techniques based on accelerated ion beams. Recent studies of selected smaller molecular cations, in particular HeH+ and smaller water cluster ions, performed at our crossed beams setup at the FLASH facility, illustrate the potential for results obtainable with intense pulses in the XUV regime. To fully explore the possibilities offered by the FLASH in the field of molecular photophysics, the need for further development of experimental methods will be underlined, and first results with a conceptually new photoelectron spectrometer will be shown. Finally, we will briefly describe initiatives at IFA towards establishing an ion beam facility at the upcoming ASTRID2, a facility complimentary to FLASH. Coffee, tea and cake will be served at 15.05 Jacob Sherson and Aurélien Dantan Dr. Jacob Friis Sherson Institut for Fysik og Astronomi Aarhus Universitet Ny Munkegade 120 8000 Århus C Tel.:8942 3680
