[vip-all] AMO seminar today

Speaker: Christian P. J. Martiny (IFA) Title: Theoretical studies of strong-field ionization of atoms and molecules by few-cycle elliptically polarized laser pulses. Time: Today, 15.15 Place: Fysisk Auditorium Abstract: During the last few years, strong-field physics with laser pulses containing only a few optical cycles has emerged as an important field within atomic, molecular and optical physics. This development is paved by the experimental and theoretical progress within the field, which has resulted in a number of different applications, e.g., molecular imaging and sub-femtosecond temporal resolution of atomic and molecular processes. Strong-field ionization stands out as a process of special relevance, since it is the initial step in a number of other strong-field processes. Thus, it is important to obtain a detailed understanding of the ionization process. In this talk, I will show some theoretical results regarding strong- field ionization of atoms and molecules by few-cycle elliptically polarized laser pulses. In particular, I will describe a theoretical investigation of the recent experiment [P. Eckle et.al. Science 322, 1525 (2008)]. Peter Staanum and Nicolai Nygaard
