Title
The physics behind the Nobel Price 2016
Abstract:
The Nobel Prize in physics in 2016 was given to David J. Thouless, J. Michael Kosterlitz, and F. Duncan M. Haldane "for theoretical discoveries of topological phase transitions and topological phases of matter”. I will in this talk try to give a straightforward
introduction to the physics behind this price. Also, I will outline how their work laid the foundation for a whole new research field investigating topological insulators/superconductors, which is one of the most active research topics in physics today.
