Dear colleagues,

This message is only relevant for those of you involved in experimental activities at our department.

Please find attached a small form about your current and future use of laboratory space, which we would like you to complete.

There are several reasons for our gathering this information. First and foremost, let us remind each other that the main purpose of the renovation, which we are currently enduring, is to ultimately provide better facilities for conducting research and teaching! We need to get an overview of the current activities in order to achieve the best possible use of the renovated facilities.

This is also an appropriate time to make a status: would your groups benefit from additional lab space, or can you do with fewer but better organized square meters? Let us emphasize that we are not aiming at conducting a process of squeezing you into less space, but it is also clear that any expansions must be well-argued.

An additional purpose of this small questionnaire is to facilitate an as-smooth-as-possible renovation of the building 1522. Some groups will be strongly affected by this process, which – as things look now – will start in the summer of 2014 and last for about one year. We are trying to identify the minimum requirements that you have, which will not halt your activities completely. Please be realistic – but modest.

Please also write if you are a regular user of some of the shared facilities in 1522, which will be affected by the renovation.

It is enough to complete one form for each “group” currently sharing lab facilities. Please rename the completed file to something including your or the group’s name before sending it to balling@phys.au.dk.  If your group is currently in the process of moving, please answer the questionnaire based on your new lab facilities.

DEADLINE for submission: 21 October 2013.

   Best regards,

       Peter Balling
