Dear colleagues,

In the fall, we are arranging a 5 ECTS PhD course*; Application of synchrotron radiation in nanoscience, with colleagues from University of Hamburg and DESY. The course focus on characterisation of nanoparticles using powder X-ray diffraction, total scattering and pair distribution function, and small angle X-ray scattering. The aim of the course is to highlight the complementarity of the techniques and give the students the tools to select the right technique and background knowledge to design and perform the experiment.

The main part of the course is a week at the DESY campus in Hamburg where the students will perform hands on experiment at two state of the art beamlines at one of the world’s most brilliant X-ray sources, PETRA III.

The theoretical background will be covered in an online lecture series in week 38-41. Experiments, data reduction, and modeling will happen in Hamburg in week 42. The evaluation of the course is based on a project report to be handed in on November 10th.

For more details and registration please see the attached course description. Deadline for registration is August 18th.

Best regards,
