Dear all, As a follow-up for the residential meeting at Vejle, before which I only had response from 2 groups, I kindly ask you to - groupwise, if possible - inform me in writing about your planned activities in connection with talent students: "Please also take responsibility for organizing suggestions for host groups for “Talent students” (i.e. students being admitted to the talent program from their second year); such groups may consist of the entire topical group or one or more subgroups." Please include in your (preferably brief) response which (sub-)groups you suggest, 5-10 keywords about the scientific content, and a bit about which competencies you expect the talent students may obtain from your programme (both the 'soft' such as presentation skills, and the 'hard' such as programming in LabVIEW), and a suggestion for the final evaluation, to be done at the end of the 1/2 year (which product?). Kære alle på IFA - (a translation into English is found below) Julen 2015 Så nærmer Julen sig igen, skønt det ikke kendes med en udetemperatur på over 10 grader. Vi har sikkert alle travlt med at få ryddet årets sidste opgaver væk fra vores bord, så vi kan starte på en frisk i det nye år. Igen i år havde vi stor søgning til fysikstudiet, hvilket er herligt. Fremover vil vi være nødsaget til at holde fokus på gennemførselstider så flest muligt kommer gennem studiet på nær normeret tid. Vi står også overfor ændringer i forbindelse med genindførelsen af semesterstrukturen og revision af kursusudbuddet. Jeg synes generelt, at vi har spændende ting i gang på undervisningsfronten, ikke mindst mht. brugen af nye metoder til indlæring, som for eksempel Sci2U. Vi har brugt rigtig mange kræfter på at få skrevet en ny 2016-2020 strategiplan for IFA. Den er i øjeblikket til gennemlæsning i Dekanatet, hvorfra vi får feed-back først i det nye år. Stor tak til alle der har bidraget til dens indhold. Fokus for vort institut er naturligvis forskning og uddannelse. Vi mener, at vi fagligt set hører til i den bedste ende på nationalt plan og i rapporten kan I læse hvilke initiativer, der påtænkes iværksat i de kommende år for at sikre en god udvikling af Instituttet. Igen i år har vi trukket på Jeres tålmodighed i forbindelse med ombygningerne. Men det lysner nu og jeg synes, at vi sammen kan glæde os over nogle dejlige lokaler (kontorer, laboratorier osv.). Vi mangler stadig at renovere kantinen, og hvis vi skal have indflydelse på dens indretning, er det på høje tid at komme med gode forslag nu. Vi har i årets løb fået nye TAP og VIP medarbejdere. En af Instituttets store styrker er vores sammenhængskraft, medarbejdere imellem. Lad os derfor huske at byde de nye velkomne i ord og handling, så det ikke behøver tage flere år før de bliver en del af IFA-fællesskabet i dets mange facetter (fagligt og socialt). Stor tak for netop Din indsats i årets løb. Vi har et Institut vi godt tør være stolte over (uden at vi behøver blive hverken korn eller selv-fede). Med ønsket om en glædelig jul og godt nytår! Lars H. Andersen Dear all at IFA. Christmas 2015 Christmas is near, although it is hard to tell with an outside temperature of more than 10 degrees. We are probably all busy clearing our desks and finishing the last tasks of the year, to be able to make a fresh start in the new year. Once again, this year, physics has welcomed many new students, which is great. In the future, we will keep focus on completion times so that as many students as possible will finish close to standard time. We are also facing changes in connection with the reintroduction of the semester structure and the revision of the courses offered. Generally, I find that there are exciting new things happening within our teaching, not least with regard to the use of new methods of learning, for example Sci2U. We have put much effort into the writing of a new 2016-2020 strategy plan for IFA. The plan is currently being reviewed by the Dean's Office, from which we will receive feedback in the beginning of the new year. A sincere thanks to everybody who have contributed to its content. The focus of our department is, of course, research and education. We believe that we have a top department academically and in the report, you can read more about the initiatives, planned for the coming years in order to ensure the success of the department. Again this year, we have asked for your patience in connection with the renovations. But it is now coming to an end, and I think that we can now enjoy our lovely rooms (offices, laboratories, etc. ). Renovation of the canteen still remains, and if we are to have any influence on its interior, it is high time to come up with good proposals now. In the course of the year, we have been gained new members of our technical/administrative staff as well as our academic staff. One of the department's great strengths is the cohesion between the employees. Therefore, let us remember to welcome our new colleagues (short term as well as permanent), in words as well as actions, so that it does not need take exceedingly long time before they become a part of the IFA community in its many aspects (academically as and socially). A big thank, especially for your efforts in the course of the year. We dare to be proud of our department (without being self-satisfied). I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Lars H. Dear all, As many of you have "local" refrigerators in rooms on your floors, it would be much appreciated if you would remember to empty the fridge for "old food, milk etc.", before you start your Christmas holidays. Getting back in the new year and be met with tainted food in the fridge that you share with colleagues is not very inviting for anybody. Vi forventer ikke at mange arbejder i juledagene, så det ene toilet aflåses på hver etage. ST-sommerfest 2016 ST-sommerfesten næste år holdes fredag den 27. maj 2016. Besøgsplatform ved ASTRID2 Ved ASTRID2 er der monteret en besøgsplatform, der tillader et meget fint udsyn over en stor del af ASTRID2. Den er monteret på nordøstsiden af afskærmningen. Kortvarigt ophold på platformen er godkendt af Statens Institut for Strålebeskyttelse. Der er dog et par forhold der skal være opfyldt: 1. Platformen er kun beregnet til korte ophold med det formål at se dele af ASTRID2 2. De besøgende skal gøres opmærksom på at strålingsniveauet ved ophold på platformen er forhøjet i forhold til ophold på gulvet. Forhøjelsen svarer nogenlunde til den man får ved at opholde sig i et fly i 10km højde - altså ikke foruroligende på nogen måde 3. Man må IKKE læne sig ind over muren, idet strålingsniveauet stiger en del når man kommer ind over murens forkant 4. Platformen er dimensioneret til samtidigt ophold af 12 personer. 5. I tilfælde af kørsel med maskinen der ikke er rutinemæssig, vil adgang til platformen være blokeret med en kæde el. lign. I så fald er ophold på platformen ikke tilladt. I er velkomne til at benytte platformen når ovenstående forhold er opfyldt. Hvis I har spørgsmål er I meget velkomne til at henvende jer til Jørgen Nielsen eller Niels Hertel. We expect the majority of employees to be on holidays during Christmas, so one toilet on each floor will be locked. ST summer celebration 2016 The ST summer celebration next year will take place on Friday 27 May 2016. Visiting platform by ASTRID2 By ASTRID2 we have now had a visiting platform fitted. This allows a great view of the large part of ASTRID2. It is mounted on the north-eastern section of the enclosure. Temporary stay on the platform is approved by Statens Institut for Strålebeskyttelse (The National Institute of Radiation Protection ). However, there are a few conditions which must be fulfilled: 1. The platform is limited to short stays with the purpose of viewing parts of ASTRID2 2. Visitors must be made aware that the level of radiation on the platform is elevated, compared to on the floor. The increase approximately corresponds to the level of radiation you would be subjected to by being in an airplane at 10 km altitude - thus it is in no way alarming 3. Do not lean over the wall, as the radiation level will rise substantially when crossing the front edge of the wall 4. The platform is designed to withstand 12 people at one time 5. In case the machine is used at a non-scheduled time, access to the platform will be blocked by e.g. a chain. In such a case any stay on the platform is prohibited. You are welcome to use the platform when the above conditions are complied with. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Jørgen Nielsen or Niels Hertel.
