Dear all, As a follow-up for the residential meeting at Vejle, before which I only had response from 2 groups, I kindly ask you to - groupwise, if possible - inform me in writing about your planned activities in connection with talent students: "Please also take responsibility for organizing suggestions for host groups for “Talent students” (i.e. students being admitted to the talent program from their second year); such groups may consist of the entire topical group or one or more subgroups." Please include in your (preferably brief) response which (sub-)groups you suggest, 5-10 keywords about the scientific content, and a bit about which competencies you expect the talent students may obtain from your programme (both the 'soft' such as presentation skills, and the 'hard' such as programming in LabVIEW), and a suggestion for the final evaluation, to be done at the end of the 1/2 year (which product?). Kære alle. (English summary below) Førsteårskurset "Bølger og optik" afsluttes med et to-ugers projektforløb (i uge 21 og 22, dvs. i perioden 19/5-30/5). I disse to uger aflyses al fysikundervisning, således at de studerende har 1/3 af deres tid til rådighed til at gennemføre et teoretisk eller eksperimentelt projekt og skrive en rapport og et resume', som indgår ved den mundtlige eksamen. Projekterne skal i bred forstand falde indenfor emnet "Bølger og optik", og de udbydes af JER. Der er instruktorer til rådighed til at assistere de studerende med den praktiske gennemførsel af projekter, hvis det er aktuelt. For at give dig en ide' om, hvad et sådant projekt kan indebære, vedlægger jeg sidste års projektkatalog. Jeg håber, at du har lyst til at bidrage til denne væsentlige og motiverende del af kurset, og ser frem til at høre fra dig i løbet af den næste uges tid. Please consider to give a smaller group of first-year students the possibility of undertaking this activity - a small theoretical or experimental project - in your research group. The period in question is calendar weeks 21 and 22 (May 19th-30th), and the total effort you may expect from the students is 1/3 of their time, i.e. something like 30 hours total, including the writing of a report. General Physics Colloquium 'Molecular resonances and ultrafast dual photoresponse of anionic biochromophores' Anastasia Bochenkova IFA The functioning of light-sensitive proteins is closely connected to the ways, by which the protein environment tunes the intrinsic photoresponse of their chromophores and guides their excited state evolution. Recently, we have disclosed a striking fundamental interplay between electronic and nuclear dynamics in competing excited-state decay channels of the anionic Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) chromophore. A non-adiabatic nature of the excited-state dynamics unexpectedly results in co-existing mutual energy-borrowing mechanisms between nuclei and electrons. By combining a novel time-domain approach to action spectroscopy and a highly correlated multi-reference electronic structure theory, we show that the energy exchange is fast and, importantly, mode-specific. The de-excitation includes vibrationally assisted electron emission out of the first excited state and internal conversion back to the hot ground state, where the latter is shown to proceed through the two distinct types of conical intersections. The mode-specificity paves the way to a control of the branching ratio in the GFP chromophore, which has been demonstrated experimentally, and, ultimately, to a mode-selective photochemistry and photophysics of the GFP proteins. Kølevand til Astrid 1 bygning 1526 Grundet renovering af kølevandssystemet til Astrid 1 bygning 1526 vil der ikke være kølevand til rådighed i uge 17 samt 18 ved Astrid 1 (22.04.2014 - 02.05.2014). I renoveringsforløbet vil vi udskifte en af de el-tavler som forsyner kølevandssystemet i bygning 1526. Dette bør som nævnt kun omhandle Astrid 1 men forstyrrelser i den daglige kølevandsdrift kan ikke udelukkes. Astrid 1 cooling circuit building 1526 Due to fundamental rebuilding of the cooling circuit in building 1526 Astrid 1 there will be no cooling water available in week 17 and 18 (22.04.2014 - 02.05.2014). In the process we have to replace one of the circuit breaker panels - and as mentioned this should only have impact on the cooling circuit regarding Astrid 1. ESS - Verdens mest intense neutronkilde Trine Poulsen Vejleder: Søren Pape Møller Torsdag den 3. april kl. 14.15 Fysisk Auditorium Snart begynder opbygningen af verdens mest intense neutronkilde, ESS. Den kommer til at ligge i Lund med Danmark og Sverige som værter. Den vil kunne bidrage til forskning indenfor en bred vifte af naturvidenskabelige fag, da neutroner er ideelle at bruge i materialeundersøgelser. En sådan maskine er dog utrolig kompleks og for at opnå så intens en neutronkilde er det nødvendigt at benytte både velkendte og nye teknologier.
