Hi all this is a little trick I learned from Maarit, and you may find useful

To make R consistently use English for its messages (errors warnings and others) without changing your system language every time you open a session, you can edit a configuration file.

  1. Locate the etc folder: Navigate to your R installation directory. It's usually found here: C:\Program Files\R\R-4.x.x\etc
  2. Open the Rconsole file: Inside the etc folder, find the file named Rconsole and open it with a simple text editor like Notepad. You may need administrator privileges to save changes to this file.
  3. Edit the language setting: Find the section that controls the language, which looks like this:

## Language for messages

language =

Change the line to:

language = en

  1. Save and restart: Save the file and close it. The next time you open R, the messages will be in English.

…By the way, we've noticed that R is speaking in Danish to many of you, which isn't the best idea. These types of messages are automatically translated, so even if you're fluent in Danish, it's not the best way to interpret them, moreover, debugging becomes harder.

Hope it helps,

Best Franca
