Til medlemmerne af Dansk Matematisk Forening: Den 13. november holder Danmarks Matematikundervisningskommission (DMUK) en interessant minikonference på DTU med temaet matematikunderving i et internationalt Øst-Vest perspektiv. Lande som Japan, Kina, Korea, Taiwan og Singapore klarer sig bedre i internationale tests (PISA og TIMSS) end mange vestlige lande. Hvad skyldes de gode resultater? Hvad kan vi lære af hinanden i Øst og Vest? Om klasseværelset? Om læreruddannelse? Om skolens og fagets kulturelle og samfundsmæssige position? Om et matematikfag i forandring? Der er indbudt et panel bestående af professor Berinderjeet Kaur (National Institute of Education, Singapore) en central figur i sydøstasiatisk matematikuddannelse, professor Niels Egelund (Aarhus Unversitet), lektor Arne Mogensen (VIAUC Aarhus), professor Carl .Winsløw (Københavns Universitet) til at debatere disse spørgsmål.
