The first seminars are organized from Univ ersity of Oslo by DC Artemis Janneke Mantheakis and Professor Paul Wenzel Geissler.\n\n\n\nThe seminar series is a monthly online reading seminar th at involves the presentation of suggested readings written by the speaker themselves\, followed by a discussion and questions session with the speak er. The speakers include supervisors\, external advisory board members\, a nd other scholars invited to present topics relevant to specific project t hemes within HEALENAE related to health and the environment. These seminar s create the space to speak directly with researchers and authors in relat ed fields and to regularly bring the cohort together to collaboratively bu ild knowledge\, methodological\, and analytical capacity on the interlinka ges between health and the environment as part of the HEALENAE training pr ogramme.\n\n\n\nDr Iva van Halen-Peša - Rethinking Environmentalism on Ex tractive Frontiers\n\nOctober 16\, 2026\, 14:15 – 16:00\n\nDr Iva van Ha len-Peša is an Associate Professor of Contemporary History at the Univers ity of Groningen\, studying environmental histories of resource extraction and environmentalism in Africa through her ERC-funded project\, AFREXTRAC T\, that explores how people respond to environmental transformation\, pol lution\, and degradation from mining and oil drilling in the Niger Delta\, the Zambian Copperbelt and gold mining in Johannesburg through oral histo ries\, archival research\, participant observation\, and literary analysis .
