Interdisciplinary workshop on artificial biology in science, literature and art history
Artificial
biology is a research area that aims at constructing life from scratch (from its basic building blocks) and thus addresses fundamental questions about what life is and how it originated - a topic that has captivated our imagination for centuries. The
workshop will explore the history of the "artificial biology" topic by presentations by experts in history of science, art and literature, who will give examples of how our understanding of life and how to shape or create it has developed over time. Based
on these examples, we will work in groups to discuss what these examples tell us about the definition of what life is, how to shape it, and how they can inform contemporary research.
Best regards,
Ebbe & Fie
