Hello everyone! I hope you have had a happy problem hunting season so far. It is time for the yearly event "IDI Open" which takes place Saturday April 25, 2015 (the day after Kapsejladsen, the big boat race at the university park). The contest is from 11:00 to 16:00, but you must arrive no later than 10:00. The local contest will take place in the Zuse building (http://osm.org/go/0H9euIimO). Soda and pizza will be provided. Please tell me if you are competing so I know how many pizzas to order / sodas to buy by sending me an email: mathias.rav@cs.au.dk. If you do not have any team mates, let me know and I will try to put you in contact with others without team mates. We might not be able to provide enough computers for everyone, so if you have a laptop you would like to use, please bring it. Teams consist of 1-3 people. Please remember your team name should start with [Aarhus]. You can sign up here: https://idiopen.idi.ntnu.no/open15/accounts/register/ https://idiopen.idi.ntnu.no/open15/team/register/ For those of you new to programming competitions, the format is as follows. You will work in groups of size 3 or less. You are given a set of exercises (typically around 10), which you have 5 hours to solve. Your team is provided one computer to solve the exercises. The solution is a program written in C, C++ or Java. You upload this program to the judging system, which will then tell you if the solution is correct or not. You win by solving the most exercises. The exercises are algorithmic in nature so you will have to device an algorithm that is fast enough. The competition follows the same rules as the ICPC competitions. For more information about IDI Open, check out https://idiopen.idi.ntnu.no/open15/ In case I forgot anything or you have any questions, feel free to send me an email or come by my office (Nygaard-334). While the contest is a test of skills, you do not have to be super good to compete. If you just want to have some fun and some free pizza, why not show up and see what it is all about? Hope to see you for the competition! /Mathias
