Hi Everyone,
The time has come for the yearly programming competition "IDI Open".
It will take place Saturday April 22, 2017. The contest proper runs from 11:00 to 16:00, but to be sure that you are ready at 11, you must show up at 10:00.
The local site for the contest will be the Zuse building (https://www.openstreetmap.org/go/0H9euIimO)
Soda, snacks and pizza will be provided.
Please tell me if you are competing so I can order a sufficient amount of pizzas / buy enough soda and snacks by filling out: https://goo.gl/forms/OByZHthk6KMg2Sex2
Please sign up no later than Wednesday April 19, 23:59!
An event will be created at facebook that you can sign up to as well, if you want to.
Teams consist of 1-3 people. You need to sign up in the Google form above as well as at
https://idiopen.idi.ntnu.no/open17/team/register/. If you have participated previously you should be able to reuse your old account.
If you do not have any team mates, let me know and I will try to put you in contact with others without team mates.
Please bring your own laptop. If your team does not have a laptop, indicate this in the form and I'll allocate one of the Zuse computers to you (or some other replacement machine).
For those of you new to programming competitions, the format is as follows.
You will work in groups of size 3 or less. You are given a set of exercises
(typically around 10), which you have 5 hours to solve. Your team is provided
one computer to solve the exercises. The solution is a program written in C,
C++, Python2, or Java. You upload this program to the judging system, which will then
tell you if the solution is correct or not. You win by solving the most
exercises. The exercises are algorithmic in nature so you will have to devise
an algorithm that is fast enough.
The competition follows the same rules as the ICPC competitions.

In case I forgot anything or you have any questions, feel free to send me an
email at cfreksen(a)cs.au.dk, or come by my office, Nygaard-337.
While the contest is a test of skills, you do not have to be super good to
compete. If you just want to have some fun and some free pizza, why not show up
and see what it is all about? Hope to see you for the competition!
